Roman fabric is a weft-knitted fabric made on a double-sided circular knitting machine. It's also called ponte-de-roma, and colloquially known as "chicken cloth." Roman fabric has a four-way repeat, and its surface is not as smooth as ordinary double-sided fabric, exhibiting slightly irregular horizontal stripes. The fabric has good elasticity in both the horizontal and vertical directions, but its horizontal stretching is not as good as double-sided fabric. It has strong moisture absorption. It's used for making underwear, offering breathability, softness, and comfortable wear.

Roman fabric belongs to the double-sided circular knitted fabric category, achieving a unique texture through specific knitting techniques. Its core characteristic is the regular horizontal stripes on its surface. This texture is achieved through a special knitting structure design, typically consisting of alternating front and back loops arranged in a certain pattern, creating a visual effect similar to the arrangement of columns in Roman architecture, hence the name "Roman fabric."
